Bacteriophage lysins are cell wall lytic enzymes expressed in the late phase of bacterial infection, with enzyme activity and substrate specificity. Most of bacteriophages contain the genes encoding three kinds of cell wall lytic enzymes,i.e.lysozyme,N-acetylmuramoyl-L-alanine amidase and endopeptidases. This paper reviews the recombination and application of bacteriophage lysins as well as the progress in research on recombinant lysins in recent years.
