Study on Release Properties of Protein from Pectin Gel Beads

OBJECTIVE To investigate the swelling properties and release behavior of model drugs(bovine serum albumin and acemetacin,BSA and ACM) from pectin gel beads.METHODS BSA and ACM was as model drugs.Pectinate beads were prepared by the dropping method and crosslinked with Ca2+ or Ba2+.The release and swelling properties were investigated.RESULTS The release rate of ACM from pectin gel beads was faster than BSA and the release rate of BSA from pectin gel beads crosslinked with Ba2+ was slower than that of gel beads crosslinked with Ca2+.CONCLUSION There are significant difference among the pectinate beads crosslinking with different ions.Pectinate gel beads was a potential protein drug vehile which could acquire different release profile by crosslinking with different ions.
