Clinical application of temporal fascia flap or temporal muscle fascia flap combined with full thickness skin graft for repairing lower lid depressed deformities

Objective To evaluate the curative effect of temporal fascia flap or temporal muscle fascia flap combined with full thickness skin graft for repairing lower lid depressed deformities. Methods All the scars from 8 cases with lower lid scar and depression deformities were excised, the temporal fascia flaps pedicled with superficial temporal artery were transferred to fill the depression. For some cases with a mild orbital bony defect, the temporal muscle fascia flaps pedicled with both superficial and deep temporal artery was used. A full thickness skin were used to cover the surface of the fascia flaps. All patients were followed up for 6~12 months. Results All 8 fascia flaps or muscle fascia flaps and skin graft remained viable, maintaining a satisfactory long-term full contour. Ectropin of the lower eyelids were repaired. There were no hair defect or obvious scar formation in the donor site. Conclusion Temporal fascia flap or temporal muscle fascia flap combined with full thickness skin graft is an optimal choice for the repair of the lower lid scar and depression. It is a simple and effective procedure with no noticeable donor site lesion.
