The sonic leak pinpointing unit described is small, rugged and inexpensive. Because the gas escaping from a leak creates detectable sound, acoustic leak detection and pinpointing are promising techniques. Recent advances in signal processing and solid-state electronics improved the potential for developing a practical acoustic pinpointer. Eight cases are presented in this paper which highlight capabilities of sonic leak detection.
