The effects of fluid properties, temperature differences, heat flux direction, turbulence, and other factors on heat transfer are discussed. Emphasis is given to the analysis of external flow and heat transfer conditions as well as determination of the turbulent Prandl number. Fluctuations in temperature are considered as a means of determining the turbulent heat transfer pattern. Local heat transfer values at various Reynolds numbers and for Prandtl numbers greater than one are addressed along with heat transfer under variable viscosity conditions. Practical recommendations for implementing the information are given, and characteristic experimental data are presented in tabular form. 120 references.
