A new ultraviolet-transparent molybdate featuring a layered structure and moderate birefringence

A two-dimensional layered molybdate compound, BaMo 5 O 16 , was synthesized and structurally characterized. It exhibits a birefringence value of Δ n = 0.1@1064 nm, along with an experimentally determined band gap of 3.38 eV.
