[Objective] To investigate the etiology, clinical related data and curative effect on aplastic anemia. [Methods] Two hundred and seventy six cases of aplastic anemia in the in-patient department of the hospital since October 1996 were analysed. The content of assessment mainly covered the following: the time of exposure to chemicals before diagnosed, whether taking medicine and the time, the ratio of lymphocytes versus red cells in peripheral blood and bone marrow, Whether steroid hormon was used during taking treatment. [Results] Touching chemicals (especial benzene in glue) resulted in a growing incidence of aplastic anemia, but the time of that was unrelated to the incidence of aplastic anemia. When diagnosed, patients with the ratio of lymphocytes: red cells more than 2:1 in peripheral blood count usually had severe clinical features; Conversely, patients with the ratio of red blood cells : lymphocytes more than 2∶1 had moderate clinical features. Therapy with steroid hormon and androgenic hormon was effective for the patients caused by exposure to chemicals, the percentage of validity is 45.16%. [Conclusions] With rapid development in industry, there is an increasing trend in the incidence of aplastic anemia caused by touching chemicals. It is suggested that aplastic anemia is a kind of disease of individual heterogeneity. Meanwhile small dose steroid hormon is effective for aplastic anemia caused by chemicals. It is indicated that it is related to function disorder of autoimmune system.
