Effects of a Home-Based Self-Management Program Using a Mobile App on Independent Task Performance, Self-Efficacy, and Adaptive Behavior in Elementary Students with Autism

This study investigated the effects of a mobile app-based, home-based self-management program on independent task performance, self-efficacy, and adaptive behavior in elementary students with autism. Sixteen students(eight experimental and eight control) participated in a 12-session program that included self-management instruction and individualized self-management practice. Independent task performance was analyzed using a single-group pretest-posttest design, whereas self-efficacy and adaptive behavior were examined using a pretest-posttest control group design. The results indicated significant improvement in independent task performance and significantly higher self-efficacy in the experimental group than in the control group. Although adaptive behaviors showed greater improvement in the experimental group, the difference was not statistically significant. Finally, the implications and recommendations for future research based on the results of this study are discussed.
