A Brief Review of Intumescent Fire Retardant Coatings

Development and application of intumescent coatings for fire protection are reviewed with the associated chemical aspects discussed. Different types of intumescent coatings and their mechanisms are outlined. Intumescent coatings with special properties such as resistant to high temperature, mildew and rot, transparent as well as multi-functional are summarized. Survey of several products available in the market and their applications are outlined.
