HAMR and mechanical stability of its head-disk interface

This paper discusses two stability issues of the head-disk interface of HAMR systems: (a) the heating induced air-pressure change and its possible interference to slider's flying stability; (b) laser induced heating-up of slider body and corresponding crown change of slider body, as crown variation can affect slider's flying height. Laser writing operation leads to nano-deformation of slider body. Such deformation (both local protrusion and crown variation) can seriously affect slider's flying performance. It is necessary to explore solutions of new slider ABS design so as to significantly reduce the sensitivity of slider's flying height to crown variation. One of such slider designs is proposed.
