We investigated a driver adaptive alarm which is triggered based on individual driving styles. Two kinds of alarm timing were considered in this research: (1) An alarm is given at the timing of ordinary accelerator releasing, (2) An alarm was given at the timing of ordinary brake implementing. We compared the two alarm timings and found that both alarm timings were acceptable from the view point of trust in warning systems. However, for drivers who have particular characteristics of driving style, e.g., drivers who tend to implement the brakes very early or very late adapting the alarm timing simply to the brake implementation timing may impair the alarm effectiveness.
