A simplified mathematical model of Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) system for the analysis of transient voltage stability is established. The SMES is connected to the power system via a double-bridge Current Source Converter (CSC). The behavior in improving the transient voltage stability by SMES, the reactive power control strategy of SMES and the control principle under the control of unequal trigger angles are researched. A transient simulation program is programmed on MATLAB platform and the typical 3-machine-10-bus system simulated by this program. The simulation results show that the transient voltage stability can be effectively improved by installing the SMES at the place where the dynamic load locates and using voltage-reactive power control mode.
