Influence of acetone and sodium sulfate impurities on the liquid-liquid equilibrium for the phenol extraction with n-butyl acetate

The liquid-liquid equilibrium at 298.15 K was measured for the water-phenol-acetone-n-butyl acetate and water-phenol-Na2SO4-n-butyl acetate systems. The concentrations of impurities in phenol-containing water were 0.3 and 1.0 mass% for acetone and 1.0 and 5.0 mass% for Na2SO4. These systems are of practical interest for the solvent extraction of phenol-containing wastewater from the cumene hydroperoxide route of phenol production and other extraction processes of water purification from phenol.
