Therapeutic Modalities

Abstract Therapeutic modalities may be defined as thermal, mechanical, electrical, or electromagnetic energies used for the treatment of medical complaints. A range of such modalities is used in the treatment of soft tissue complaints, including thermal agents, ultrasound, and electrical agents (Table 1). In this chapter, the basis for the use of specific modalities and the existing evidence relating to their clinical effects are outlined.
