The usefulness is pointed out of the publication by the U.S. Department of Transportation of the Culvert Inspection Manual - Supplement to the Bridge Inspector's Training Manual. The text provides procedures for conducting and documenting inspections, with guidelines for evaluating the hydraulic and structural components of culverts. Discussions of the hydraulic, structural, and durability performance of culverts are also included. Information is provided on personnel qualifications, equipment, and safety procedures required for conducting culvert inspections. Almost all culvert materials are covered. A rating guideline is provided which evaluates the different types of culverts based on their conditions on a scale from 9 to 0.
