Prevention and Treatment of Complications of Ventriculo-peritoneal Shunt in Hydrocephalus

Objective:To discuss the appearances and causes of the common complications of ventriculo-peritoneal shunt in hydrocephalus. Methods:The author retrospectively analyzed the common complications of ventriculo-peritoneal shunt in 16 patients with hydrocephalus. Results:In the 16 cases,there were 5 cases with shunt blockage,3 cases with infection,5 cases with low intracranial pressure response,7 cases with gastrointestinal symptoms. Conclusion:Shunt blockage and infection are the main complications of ventriculo-peritoneal shunt in hydrocephalus.Complications can be prevented by selecting a different pressure drainage device,anti-infection and strictly controling operation indication.
