The pore cause in overhead position welding of basic low hydrogen type austenitic electrode is studied. The contrastive discontinuous-arc-welding between in flat position and in overhead position are tested. The discontinuous-arc-welding in overhead position with protective atmosphere is tested. The contrastive tests of discontinuous-arc-welding and continuous-arc-welding in overhead position are also made. The pore rate is introduced to study the pore quantitatively. The results indicate that the welding pore in overhead position welding is nitrogen pore. The cause is the protecting effect in the welding process is not good. The welding pores can be reduced evidently by continuous-arc-welding instead of discontinuous-arc-welding in overhead position welding.
