Objective To compare the performances of six bio-electrodes in brain electrical impedance tomography(EIT) to obtain the most suitable one. Methods 2-electrode and 16-electrode measurements were chosen respectively to measure the impedance of forearm and brain for ten different subjects. The performance of each electrode system was assessed in contact impedance,signal-to-noise ratio(SNR),uniformity and stability. Results Hot dip coating Ag/AgCl electrode showed a better performance with lower contact impedance, higher SNR and better uniformity and stability. Conclusion With improving and optimizing, the hot dip coating Ag/AgCl electrode is likely to be selected as the most suitable electrode system for brain EIT and can provide technology support for the in-depth study of brain EIT.
