The original technologies of design and synthesis of LC compounds for use in various types of LCDs, as well as new anisotropic materials with a wide range of practical applications are described and summarized. Different reaction possibilities of corresponding polyfunctional substrates allow transformations to be achieved selectively and give a chance of preparing liquid crystals (LC) and anisotropic compounds with novel combinations of the structural fragments of molecules, which are in their turn useful components for sensors, photonic devices, displays and other practical applications.
