Some derivatives of methacrylic acid

Abstract The following substances, not yet described in the literature, were prepared: N‐tert‐butyl methacrylamide, m.p. 59° C, b.p. 111°° C/42 mm. tert‐butyl methacrylate, b.p. 136° C, fr.p. −48° C. N‐methacrylyl‐benzenesulphonamide, m.p. 128–129° C. N‐methacrylyl‐p‐toluenesulphonamide, m.p. 153–154° C. An improved method of preparation for methacrylic acid and methacrylyl chloride is described. Densities and refractions of several of these compounds are given. Some of these compounds have been polymerised and the solubility of the polymers in various solvents has been determined.
