Evaluation on the Condition of Residents Receiving Service of Family Doctors in Yuetan District of Beijing

Objective To understand the basic health levels of residents being served by the family doctor of the Beijing Yuetan district and the attitude of residents to both the utility of the health service institutions and the family doctors.Methods A questionnaire was conducted for a total of 857 persons from resident families in 370 Yuetan district,who have received medical services by the doctors.Results The average age of the heads of the families in this study was 71.7±9.4 years.39.44% of the queried families had at least one member who has medically-diagnosed hypertension.22.87% of the queried families had at least one member who has hyperlipemia.20.65% of the queried families had at least one member who has diabetes millitus.17.50% of the queried families had at least one member who has coronary heart disease(CHD).10.50% of the queried families had at least one member who has cerebral infarction.84.32% of the queried residents choose the Yuetan Community Health Clinics as their first choice.13.51% of the queried residents choose hospitals of three different levels as their primary treatment location.42.16% of the queried residents choose their family doctors because of the doctors status as the family′s continuous health care provider.37.57% of the queried residents choose their family doctors because their disease conditions are well understood by the doctors.Conclusion It is feasible and with a solid foundation of residents to put into effect the system of family doctors′ responsibilities in Yuetan district.However,the family doctors must continue to perfect their abilities on their own,and the residents must also continue to enhance their senses of self-health care,thus the system of family doctors′ responsibilities can be efficaciously implemented.
