Translanguaging is a term used to describe an act of bilingual performance and a pedagogical approach to teaching. The chapter outlines the historical context, definitions, and underlying theory of translanguaging; reviews studies of translanguaging within formal educational settings and in families and communities (informal settings); and analyzes language data (Spanish and Korean) to demonstrate current translanguaging practices across settings. Finally, implications for further research and pedagogy are provided.
