Chromium doped CaMgSi 2 O 6 (Cr 3+ : CMS) fluorescent ceramics with different doping concentrations were fabricated by the solid-state reaction method. Samples were sintered at 1250 for 3 h. The microstructure and fluorescent characteristics were measured. It is found that all the Cr 3+ : CMS ceramics with different doping concentrations exhibit homogeneous structures with grain size distributions around 0.86-2.26nm. The luminescent spectra of the Cr 3+ : CMS ceramics show two emission peaks where the strong peak locates at 872 nm originated from the energy levels transition in 4 T 2 → 4 A 2 of Cr 3+ ions, the weak peak locates at 960 nm. The intensity of the emission peak reaches a maximum value when the Cr 3+ concentration is 0.1at. %, and decreases with increasing doping concentration. The luminescent properties of Cr 3+ : CMS fluorescence ceramics and powder are quite different, which originates from different crystal field strength.
