In the latest Precambrian and Early Cambrian, turbidity currents and cohesive flows transported pebbles, sand and mud into a deep water in south-east Poland, this sediment probably being sourced from Gondwana. Abundant detrital albite grains suggest volcanism during sedimentation. Pebbles in conglomerate interbeds are polymict and include rock fragments showing greenschist facies regional metamorphism in the source area. The Precambrian surface in the marginal part of the Carpathians lies at 2006–5000 m b.s.l., whereas farther south, around Kuźmina it reaches 7000 m. Still farther south (Krosno-Sanok-Baligrod) geophysical evidence suggests it lies at about 17-20 km depth
