A clinical observation of effect of fibrin glue on incisional wound healing of women underwent mastectomy due to breast cancer

Objective To observe effect of fibrin glue on incisional wound healing of women underwent mastectomy due to breast cancer.Methods 45 women with breast cancer were divided into two groups: group A(n=24) and group B(n=21).In group A,5mL of fibrin glue were sprayed and smeared on the incisional wound in course of modified radical mastectomy.In group B,the patients received modified radical mastectomy only without use of fibrin glue in the operation.The total amount of subcutaneous drainage within first 3 days after operation,decannulation time,subcutaneous hydrops,necrosis of the skin flap,and average hospital stay in the two groups were observed. Results The subcutaneous drainage amount at either the first day or the second day after operation was significantly less in group A as compared with group B(P0.05),and at the third day after operation,in subcutaneous drainage amount there was a significant difference between the two groups(P0.01).The duration of drainage,subcutaneous hydrops rate and postoperative hospital stay in the group A were shorter and less than those in the group B.In incidence of necrosis of skin flaps,there was no significant difference between the two groups(P0.05).Conclusion Fibrin glue could effectively decrease the incisional wound exudates and promote healing of the incisional wound.
