UNESCO and intangible cultural heritage from the viewpoint of sustainable development

This paper questions the notion of sustainable development as it is used in the convention for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage. It is proposed to interpret this notion differently from the currently accepted regular meaning of the concept. Some parallels are made to the works of Amartyia Sen.
