The circular photogalvanic (CPG) effect was investigated on three kinds of optically active crystals Bi12SiO20, Bi12GeO20 and Pb5Ge3O11. For this purpose, we constructed an apparatus which detects the CPG current synchronously with the phase modulation of the incident light. The magnitude and direction of the current were observed to vary depending on the polarization state of the incident light. Bi12SiO20 and Bi12GeO20 produced the CPG current with opposite sense although their chirality was same. In Pb5Ge3O11, the sense of the CPG current could be reversed by the external electric field.
