Reliability and validity of the Chinese version of Decision Conflict Scale among parents of severe hand-foot-and-mouth disease children

Objective To translate and revise the Decision Conflict Scale (DCS) , and explore the reliability as well as validity of the Chinese version of DCS among parents of severe hand-foot-and-mouth disease children. Methods We carried out translation and back translation of DCS based on the principle of introducing scale, and then we applied cross-cultural adaptation and revised to form the Chinese version of DCS. From January to June 2017, we selected 117 parents of severe hand-foot-and-mouth disease children at a children hospital in Nanjing as subjects. The reliability and validity of the Chinese version of DCS was analyzed according to the results. Results The content validity index and test-retest reliability of the Chinese version of DCS were 0.95 and 0.865 respectively with 16 items. The Cronbach's α of the total scale was 0.873 and that of dimensions ranged from 0.723 to 0.895. Exploratory factor analysis extracted three factors with 62.849% for the cumulative variance contribution rate. Conclusions The Chinese version of DCS has good reliability and validity which is applicable for assessing the decision conflict among parents of severe hand-foot-and-mouth disease children.
