Objective: To construct fluoridated hydroxyapatite(FA) enamel prism-like structure on the natural enamel surface of human teeth by a simple chemical approach. Methods: FA enamel prism-like structure with different sizes and shapes were produced on the enamel surface of human teeth by a chemical approach using EDTA-Ca-Na2,NaH2PO4·H2O and NaF as the reactants. The physicochemical and biological properties of the enamel-like material were studied by SEM,XRD,FTIR,XPS,MTT assay and bacterial inhibition ring test. Results: The compacted well-aligned FA crystals were produced, which could grow directly on the enamel surface. The nanorods of the crystal were approximately 6 μm in length and 300 nm in diameter whose physicochemical property and biological performance were similar to those of natural enamel. The enamel-like material showed biocompatibility and certain bacteriostasis. Conclusion: The FA product may simulate the structure, component and decay resistance of human tooth enamel.
