Isolation and identification of the non-alkaloid constituents from Gelsemium elegans Benth.

Objective To investigate the non-alkaloid constituents from the whole plant of Gelsemium elegans Benth.Methods Solvent extraction and column chromatography were used to isolate the non-alkaloid constituents,and physicochemical properties and spectroscopic analysis were employed for the determination of the structures.Results Seven compounds were isolated,and their structures were identified as scopoletin(1),caffeic acid ethyl ester(2),cinnamic acid(3),salicylic acid(4),vanillic acid(5),resveratrol(6)and hexatriacontan-1-ol(7).Conclusions Compounds 24 and 6 are obtained from this genus for the first time.
