Coupling scrap iron valorization with hydrogen evolution via a novel iron oxidation-to-ferrate electrochemistry

The electrochemical conversion of scrap iron into ferrate while maintaining hydrogen evolution at the cathode to form an anodic IOF//cathodic HER couple is achieved, establishing a net-zero-carbon recycling route for iron waste.
