AIM: To investigate the chemical constituents of the leaves of Camellia assamica var. kucha Chang et Wang. METHODS: Chemical constituents were isolated by polyamide,Sephadex LH-20,ODS column and HPLC chromatography. The structures were elucidated on the basis of physiochemical characteristics and spectral data. RESULTS: Ten compounds were isolated and identified as theacrine (1),caffeine (2),theobromine (3),(+)-catechin (4),(-)-epigallocatechin (5),(-)-gallocatechin (6),(-)-epigallocatechin 3-O-gallate (7),(-)-gallocatechin 3-O-gallate (8),1,2,6-tri-O-galloyl-β-D-glucose (9),and gallic acid (10),respectively. CONCLUSION: Compounds 4-10 have been ob-tained from the plant for the first time and NMR data of 1 are firstly reported.
