Coprophilic fungi and especially Chaetomium spp. have often been found in association with seed infection in the soil and could be responsible for the depletion of seed bank. They are also known to attack vascular system in plants and for antagonistic activities against other seed bome diseases. Certain Chaetomium species have been found to be host specific. Recent studies have shown the potential of chaetomium species have been found to be host specific. Recent studies have shown the potential of chaetomium globosum and c. spiral 4 to reduce seed bank of Onopordum acanthium and Carduus mutans and thus act as biological agents against these weeds.
