Wireless, batteryless, and packageless acoustic wave devices for epidermal sensing applications

In this communication rooted in the field of epidermal electronics, we show that the combination of packageless acoustic wave sensors with stretchable, on skin, antennas can provide an attractive solution for wireless, batteryless, fully passive and seamlessly integrated on skin sensing. We will showcase a skin temperature measurement in the 2.45 ISM band with a backscattering interrogation scheme using a quartz based waveguiding layer acoustic wave sensor.
