The effect of mainly hyperbaric oxygen therapy on persistant vegetative state analysis of 168 cases

Aim:To probe the action mechanism of hyperbaric oxygenation(HBO)on persistant vegetative state(PVS)through the observation of the therapeutic effect of combined treatment with HBO as the main measure on 168 cases of PVS. Methods:The therapeutic effects of 168 patients treated with HBO(HBO group)were compared with 86 patients of control group without HBO treatment,and at the same time,some significant factors influencing the therapeutic effect of HBO treatment were analysed.Results:Total effective rate of the HBO group was 83.3%,which was markedly higher than the 54.6% of the control group( P 0 01).Conclusion:HBO treatment has significant therapeutic effects for the PVS patients,besides the effects were shown to be related with patient′s age,times of HBO treatment,cause of PVS and the time of beginning HBO treatment after the appearance of PVS.
