Compositional Design and Engineering Performance of Rare Earth Strengthened Al_2O_3/Ti(C,N) Ceramic Material

Based on the rare earth reinforced Al2O3/Ti(C,N) ceramic material,compositional designs aiming at the impact resistance,thermal shock resistance and wear resistance have been carried out.The results show that the optimum volume fraction of the dispersed phase Ti(C,N) is 27.7%,26.5% and 30.7%,respectively,when the corresponding optimum impact resistance,thermal shock resistance and wear resistance is approximately 71.4%,40.4% and 28.9% higher than that of pure alumina ceramic.Then,cutting behavior of the rare earth reinforced Al2O3/Ti(C,N) ceramic material were investigated when used as cutting tools.It suggests that the ceramic material has good wear resistance which means that it can be expected as a potential tool material.
