Objective To explore the expression of c-met protein and its relation with microvessel density(MVD) in colorectal carcinoma and assess their clinical significance. Methods Immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expression of c-met protein and MVD marked by CD105 in 50 cases of colorectal carcinoma,20 of adenoma and 50 of normal tissue. ResultsThe positive rate of c-met in colorectal carcinoma was significantly higher than that in adenoma and normal tissue(χ2=31.929,P0.01).The MVD in colorectal carcinoma was significantly higher than that in adenoma and normal tissue(H=92.435,P0.01).c-met and MVD had no correlation with tumor site and histology staging, but were closely related to Dukes staging, depth of invasion, lymph node and distant metastasis(χ2=4.000-9.018;t=2.605-4.024;P0.05,0.01).The MVD in c-met-positive rectal cancer was higher than that in c-met-negative(t=2.752,P0.01). Conclusion c-met possibly play an important role in invasion and metastasis of colorectal carcinoma.Co-detection of c-met and MVD might be conducive to prediction of the prognosis of this malignancy.
