Ca2AlSi3O2N5:Sm3+ phosphor was prepared by a combination of in-situ co-precipitation method with a gas-reduction-nitridation method at 1100 degrees C. Its structure and luminescent properties were investigated with XRD and PL. The emission spectrum of Ca2AlSi3O2N5:Sm3+ shows several pesks at 602 nm ((4)G(5/2) -> H-6(7/2)), and 650 nm ((4)G(5/2) -> H-6(9/2)) under 287 nm excitation. The effect of the doping concentration of Sm3+ activator on the luminescence properties was studied. It is found that the luminescence intensity increases with increasing of Sm3+ doping concentration within limits, and then decreases. The photoluminescence intensity reaches the highest when the Sm3+ doping concentration is 1 mol%.
