Intercalation-enabled reversible disorder and efficient iodine capture in a two-dimensional metal–organic framework

We demonstrate intercalation-induced reversible order-disorder transitions in a two-dimensional metal-organic framework. Enabled by exceptionally weak interlayer interactions, iodine reversibly inserts into the interlayer region under mild conditions, triggering pronounced interlayer expansion and lattice disorder without framework decomposition while affording high iodine uptake in both vapor and solution phases.
