Glucose transporter 2(GLUT2)is the main glucose transporter of pancreatic β-cell.It plays an important role in the process of insulin secretion of pancreatic β-cell.GLUT2 and glucokinase are considered to be the glucose sensor in the pancreatic β-cell,they are feedback regulators which make the intensity of insulin secretion in response to blood glucose concentrations. In order to describe the biological role of GLUT2 and the relationship of GLUT2 and diabetes, this article gives a brief review from five aspects:GLUT2 molecular structure and function, expression regulation, the relationship with glucokinase, the relationship with glucotoxicity and 1ipotoxicity,as well as the role in diabetes.
