WINDSCREENS OF LAMINATED AND TOUGHENED GLASS

Windscreens of cars are mostly made of laminated or toughened glass. In this report the differences between the safety of laminated and toughened glass in case of collisions are studied. It is shown that there is hardly any difference in the effect of the result of an accident for the vehicle occupants. The advantages of laminated glass are in the pre-crash phase. The real useful effect of laminated glass is in the better properties in the area of a crack caused by pebbles. A laminated glass windscreen remains transparent in this area during driving and does not crumble. (TRRL)
