OBJECTIVE: To investigate the expression of CD20 and CD68 and their relationship with clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis in patients with classical Hodgkin's lymphoma(CHL).METHODS: The expression of CD20 and CD68 were detected by immunohistochemical staining(SP) assay in 29 CHL cases, and tumor morphology was observed with HE staining. The relation between the expression of CD20 and CD68 and their prognostic roles were studied.RESULTS: 1) Among the 29 CHL specimens, the expression of CD20 and CD68 in patients with CHL was related to age(P=0.010,P=0.006),but not to the sex, stage, histological type, bulk disease, and B symptoms(P0.05).2)There was no relationship between the expression of CD20and CD68 in the CHL(r=-0.335,P0.05).3)The 5 year failure-free survival(FFS) rate of CD20 high-expression was higher than that of the low-expression(69.3% vs 54.5%),without statistical significance(P=0.610);The 5 year FFS rate of CD68 low-expression was higher than that of high-expression(86.3% vs 24.7%),with statistical significance(P=0.044).CONCLUSIONS: 1) The expression of CD20 and CD68 in patients with CHL is related to age,but not to other clinicopathological characteristics.2) There is no relationship between the expression of CD20 and CD68 in the CHL.3) No evidence has been showed that the role of CD20 expression had an impact on the prognosis in CHL,but the expression of CD68 of tumor associated macrophages is correlated with poor prognosis in CHL.
