Outcomes of Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head in Children and Adolescents with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD)

Purpose: Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a common complication of SCD. We set out to describe clinical and radiographic outcomes of SCD patients ≤21 years with ONFH, who were treated with (1) core decompression (CD) or (2) CD plus bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) injection, (3) total hip arthroplasty (THA) or (4) observation alone.
