Objective To explore the application value of the modified early Warning Score System(MEWS)in the Rescue Room of the Emergency Department. Methods We scored 213 cases of patients in the Rescue Room of the Emergency Department in a hospital of Chengdu City during Apirl and May in 2012, analyzed the distribution characteristics of different grade patients, and tracked patients' admissions, recovery and the time of being shifted to specialized ward or to the ICU/CCU. Results For patients with the MEWS score higher than 5, the rate of being discharged and shifted to specialized ward was higher, while being shifted to the ICU/CCU was lower, compared with patients who had a score higher than 5, and the difference was statistically significant(P 0.05). The shifted time of the patients with different MEWS scores was different: to the ICU/CCU was the shortest, followed by being discharged, and to the specialized ward was the longest. But the differences between the two groups were not statistically significant(P 0.05).Conclusions Definitely, MEWS can predict patients' condition changes and the severity of illness, thus providing certain reference for medical personnel to take timely rescue measures and reasonable arrangement. It is worthy of popularization and application.
