Base-catalyzed cascades of monosaccharide conversion to formic acid: isotope tracking reveals pathways and their optimal usage under mild conditions in water

We use real-time isotope tracking to resolve the complex pathways of glucose conversion to formate and its byproducts, which are shown to operate under kinetic control in water. Factors determining process efficiency are clarified.
