摘要
Design and development of new materials by serendipity or through a systematic and scientifically rigorous approach like the few mentioned in the earlier chapters using computational tools ultimately hinge on the successful synthesis of the new materials at lab scale and further optimization of their processing schedule to truly realize the potential of these materials. The discovery of bronze some 5000 years ago might have been an accidental discovery but the production of self-lubricating bronze bearings which are ubiquitous in high-end low-speed machinery in different industries emphasizes the importance of synthesis and processing of engineering materials.
