Biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP)ceramic is an important bone grafting material in orthopedic field. BCP bioceramic is developed by an optimum balance of the stable phase of hydroxyapatite and the soluble βtricalcium phosphate with the adjustable bioactivity and biodegradation. The researching history, preparation process and material evaluation are reviewed. Porous BCP ceramic simulated as the structure of nature bone is an excellent scaffold materials of bone tissue engineering, which is suitable for the growth of cells and bone tissue. The porous structure, mechanical properties and biological behavior of the porous BCP ceramic were concluded. The potential research of BCP bioceramic as scaffold materials for tissue engineering and carrier for various growth factors are described. Moreover the prospect of the tissue-engineered BCP ceramic scaffold is put forward.
