During past decades the shortage in the conventional energy supply and also global warming have been two main concerns among nations worldwide. Shale oil reservoirs showed promising potential to compensate aforementioned consideration to some extent. Shale oil reservoirs not only hold a tremendous amount of hydrocarbon reserves but also proved to have a great capacity for carbon storage. However, both oil recovery and carbon storage in such reservoirs are associated with numerous challenges. For instance, the recovery factor under primary production is generally very limited for these unconventional reservoirs. Therefore, different Enhanced oil recovery methods should be implemented to increase the oil yield. Carbon dioxide-enhanced oil recovery (CO2-EOR) methods are among the favorite techniques to be used for such reservoirs. In this chapter, first, a brief review of CO2-EOR is given and then different affecting parameters for this technique in shale oil reservoirs will be discussed. Moreover, a comprehensive review of the experimental, simulation, and field studies will be presented. Next, different aspects of carbon storage in shale reservoirs will be described. Finally, the environmental and economic issues related to CO2-EOR and carbon storage projects will be explained.
