This paper mainly discussed the twist structures of two self-twist yarns—in-phase yarn and phase yarn and performance difference between the two.In terms of the twist structures,there are three kinds of yarn zones: the twisted-twisted zone,twisted-untwisted zone,and untwisted-untwisted zone in one cycle length of self-twist yarn.The existence of phase difference makes the length of untwisted-untwisted zone decreased.When the phase difference(value c) is close or equal to the length of the untwisted zone(value b),the length of untwisted-untwisted zone becomes minimal so that the formed self-twist yarn consists of the best zones in the twist structure of self-twist yarn: twisted-twisted zone,and twisted-untwisted zone.The test results of the spun in-phase and phase self-twist yarns indicate that when value c=b,the spun self-twist yarn has better strength and elongation property.
