Objective To assess the clinical efficacy and safety of Edaravone in treatment of acute cerebral infarction. Methods Sixty-eight patients with acute cerebral infarction enrolled in this study were randomly allocated to Edaravone group and control group.Besides receiving traditional therapy, the Edaravone group received i.v.Edaravone 30 mg,twice a day for 14 days. The therapy of the control group was similar to those of Edaravone group except for Edaravone. The patients' condition was evaluated by using Scandinavian Stroke Scale(SSS) and activities of daily living (ADL) before treatment and on days 7 and 14 after treatment. Results 7 and 14 days after treatment, by comparison with the control group,an improved SSS and ADL had been obtained in the Edaravone group, there were statistically significant differences(P0.05 or 0.01). In Edaravone group,by comparison with before treatment, the SSS and ADL were improved after treatment, there were statistically significant differences(P0.01). No side effect in the Edaravone group. Conclusion Edaravone is effective and safe in treatment of acute cerebral infarction.
